About us
Our story in the heart of Saint Anna
In 2010, Sophie and Peter, together with their children Korneel, Kasper and Juliette, settled in the authentic Saint Anna quarter of Bruges. They bought a former officers' house in Carmersstraat and transformed the old coach house into an architectural studio.
In 2025, they had the opportunity to acquire the adjoining house and carefully reimagined both properties into one harmonious ensemble — a family home, guesthouse and architecture studio connected by a charming city garden. As born-and-raised Bruggelingen, they love sharing their local insights, favourite places and hidden gems with their guests.
Meet Sophie
Creativity lies at the core of Sophie's work, where architecture and ceramics continuously meet and inform one another. After years as an architect, she gradually shifted her focus towards craftsmanship and ceramic design — a practice where material, detail and space come together in a very hands-on way.
At 't Kleihuys this creative dialogue becomes a lived experience. The guesthouse is part of Sophie's home and work environment, carefully restored and shaped with great attention to detail, where she welcomes guests with warmth and generosity. More than a place to stay, it is an invitation into her world, her home and her neighbourhood.
Keramiek van Sophie
"I'm an architect turned ceramic artist with a passion for light, space and material. My work, mostly in porcelain, balances fragility and strength and is shaped by intuition, touch and the dialogue between inside and outside."
Throughout 't Kleihuys you'll discover handmade porcelain lighting, washbasins and objects designed specifically for the house — each piece carrying a story of craftsmanship, connection and everyday beauty.
Our other place
Ma Damme Keramiek
Next to 't Kleihuys, Sophie also rents out a holiday home in nearby Damme. Set within her parental home, with her ceramic studio right next door, Ma Damme Keramiek sleeps up to six guests across three bedrooms — a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature on the edge of the village.
